How to check what a Pokémon card is worth

4 min · Oct 30, 2026 · Cardometer

The name is not enough. Value depends on the set, number, variant and condition. Here is where to find each of them.

Two cards with the same Pokémon can be worth €0.10 or €1,000. To check yours you need four things — all printed on the card.

1. Find the number and set symbol

The bottom corner shows a number such as 199/165. The first figure is the card’s number in the set, the second is the count of “official” cards. If the first is higher, it is a secret rare — usually the most valuable card in the set. Next to it is the set symbol and, on newer cards, a code such as MEW or OBF.

2. Search for the name and number

Type e.g. Charizard ex 199/165 into Cardometer’s search. The number narrows the result to the right set straight away — the name alone would return dozens of cards.

3. Check the variant

The same card may be printed as normal, holo, reverse holo, sometimes 1st edition or stamped. Each variant has its own price, listed under “Prices by variant” on the card page. Reverse holo has a shiny background, holo a shiny artwork.

4. Be honest about condition

Our prices are for Near Mint cards: no creases, scratches or worn corners. Played cards with white edges usually sell for a fraction of that. Graded cards (PSA, CGC, BGS) are a separate market and can be worth many times more with a high grade.
